"Vergesse ich dein, Deutschland, großes Vaterland, so werde meiner Rechten vergessen!" (Wilhelm Raabe: Chronik der Sperlingsgasse)

"If I forget thee, Germany, great fatherland, let my right hand forget its skill" — a patriotic line attributed on the note to Raabe's *Chronik der Sperlingsgasse*.

What was happening

The 50 Pfennig value of Eschershausen's Wilhelm Raabe series. The town in the Weserbergland was the birthplace of the novelist Wilhelm Raabe (1831–1910), and the whole set is a civic tribute to him. The common front shows Raabe's birthplace, a panorama of Eschershausen in Braunschweig, and the Raabeturm und Denkmal (the Raabe lookout tower and monument).

The back of this value, drawn by F. Jühner, shows a wanderer resting on a hill above a valley, with a line from Raabe's Chronik der Sperlingsgasse: "Vergesse ich dein, Deutschland, großes Vaterland, so werde meiner Rechten vergessen!" Issued 1 June 1921, valid until 1 July 1922, signed by Elsner. It completes the denominations alongside the 10 Pfennig ([[notgeld-eschershausen-10-pfennig]]), 25 Pfennig ([[notgeld-eschershausen-25-pfennig]]), 1 Mark ([[notgeld-eschershausen-1-mark]]) and 2 Mark ([[notgeld-eschershausen-2-mark]]).
