Symbology

Patriot figure
A satirical cartoon commenting on the Schleswig plebiscite of 1920, which transferred North Schleswig to Denmark.
"Ob schwer auch getroffen / Deutschland wird leben"
"Though hard hit, Germany will live" — a defiant motto common on post-war German Notgeld, expressing resilience after the territorial losses of the Versailles Treaty.

What was happening

A different series from the same town, this time with satirical cartoons about the Schleswig plebiscite and the Danish-German border question. The front shows a figure labelled Patriot with commentary about cockades and Danish flags — biting political satire from a town that had just watched the border move.

Signed by Rehr (Bürgermeister). The back shows the Neustadt Kirche (church) and the motto Ob schwer auch getroffen / Deutschland wird leben ("Though hard hit, Germany will live").

This account belongs to the type, not this copy — it is shared by every 25 Pfennig, Neustadt in Holstein, 1921 (Patriot series) in the collection.
