Symbology

Eagle and "BN" monogram arms
The civic-corporate device of the Bad Neuenahr resort company: an eagle on a shield with the "BN" monogram in a star-topped lozenge.

What was happening

The 2 Mark value of the private bearer cheques issued by the Bad-Neuenahr A.-G., the joint-stock company that ran the Ahr-valley spa. Like the 1 Mark Schecks ([[notgeld-bad-neuenahr-1-mark-zauberquell]], [[notgeld-bad-neuenahr-1-mark-warmquell]]) it was printed by the company's bank department as a Scheck drawn on its own balance, for use by the Kurgäste when small change had vanished.

The front carries the eagle-and-"BN"-monogram arms of the resort and the undertaking to pay the bearer two marks. Dated Neuenahr, 1 March 1922, valid until 31 December 1922, marked Reihe 1.

This account belongs to the type, not this copy — it is shared by every 2 Mark, Bad Neuenahr A.-G. Bank-Abteilung, 1922 in the collection.
