What was happening
The 75 Pfennig value of the Frücht series. The village near Bad Ems is the burial place of the reformer Freiherr vom und zum Stein, and the set honours both Stein and his wartime collaborator, the nationalist writer Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769–1860).
This note carries the Frücht arms, the motto "Deutschlands Führer in großer Zeit" and two lines of Arndt: "Heil, fester Stein vom festen Steine! Heil, stolzer, freier, deutscher Mann!" — a verse that puns on Stein's name while sounding the patriotic note of the Wars of Liberation. Dated Frücht, 1 January 1922, signed by the Bürgermeister, printed by Hartmann of Coblenz. See also [[notgeld-fruecht-25-pfennig]] and [[notgeld-fruecht-50-pfennig]].
This account belongs to the type, not this copy — it is shared by every 75 Pfennig, Gemeinde Frücht, 1922 in the collection.
