What was happening
The 50 Pfennig value of the Frücht series. Frücht, a village near Bad Ems, is the burial place of the Prussian reformer Freiherr vom und zum Stein, whose family chapel stands there, and the Notgeld trades on the association throughout.
This note carries the Frücht arms and the lines "Des Guten Grundstein, Des Bösen Eckstein, Der Deutschen Edelstein" — a play on Stein's name (Stein = stone), credited on the note to the Stein monument at Nassau. Dated Frücht, 1 January 1922, signed by the Bürgermeister, printed by Hartmann of Coblenz. See also [[notgeld-fruecht-25-pfennig]] and [[notgeld-fruecht-75-pfennig]].
This account belongs to the type, not this copy — it is shared by every 50 Pfennig, Gemeinde Frücht, 1922 in the collection.
