Symbology
- Eagle with the imperial tricolour
- The German eagle grasping the black-white-red flag of the Kaiserreich, a common patriotic motif on 1920s Notgeld.
- "Wir wollen keine Dänen sein"
- "We don't want to be Danes" — the rhetoric of the Schleswig plebiscite, borrowed by an Oldenburg village far from the Danish border.
- Harvesters and windmill
- On the back, a man and woman bringing in the harvest past a windmill, with the motto *Segen ist der Mühe Preis* — "blessing is the reward of toil."
What was happening
The 75 Pfennig value of Steinfeld's patriotic eagle series, matching the 1 Mark note [[notgeld-steinfeld-1-mark-eagle]]. Steinfeld is a farming municipality in the Landkreis Vechta, in the former Grand Duchy of Oldenburg (today Lower Saxony).
The front shows a large eagle clutching the black-white-red tricolour of the Kaiserreich on a spear, flanked by the value, under the motto Wir wollen keine Dänen sein / Wir wollen Deutsche bleiben ("We do not want to be Danes / We want to remain Germans"). The back shows a man and woman carrying the harvest past a windmill with the motto Segen ist der Mühe Preis ("blessing is the reward of toil"). The Danish-border rhetoric of the 1920 Schleswig plebiscite is striking on a note from an Oldenburg village with no Danish question of its own — it reads as pan-German solidarity rather than local politics. Valid until 30 November 1921, signed by the Gemeindevorstand.
