What was happening
The face shows Vuk Stefanović Karadžić (1787–1864), the philologist who reformed the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet on the principle "write as you speak," collected the folk songs, and effectively founded the modern Serbian literary language. The back shows an Orthodox monastery with the letters of the alphabet he standardised.
Dated 1993, one of the national-culture notes the inflation turned out alongside the Tesla and Andrić designs ([[yugoslavia-5000-dinara-1993]], [[yugoslavia-5000-dinara-1992]]).
