What was happening

The green half-million, dated 1993. The face shows Dositej Obradović (1742–1811), the writer and educator of the Serbian Enlightenment and the first minister of education of the restored Serbian state; the back shows the Hopovo Monastery on Fruška Gora, where as a young man he had been a monk before leaving to study abroad.

It is one of two 500,000-dinara notes dated 1993 — this, the portrait design, and the mountain-landscape design ([[yugoslavia-500000-dinara-1993-village]]) — the National Bank reissuing the same denomination as the inflation outran it.

This account belongs to the type, not this copy — it is shared by every 500000 Dinara, FR Yugoslavia, 1993 (Dositej Obradović) in the collection.
